Dear book defacer,
I understand that this children's book about Sodom and Gomorrah focuses on the Sodomites' hatred for strangers and uncharitability, but cuts out the rape and the fact that Lot's daughters fucked him and got pregnant at the end of the story. However! Please refrain from writing about those things in the margins again.
And if you do plan to do it again, remember that anything you write in pencil can and will be erased.

Why hello there, Lambdawank! I believe you shall be extremely useful during my Yaoicon panel. After I'm done headdesking, anyway.
Basic rundown: Lambda Literary Awards clarifies rules to make it clear that it's an award for books about and by LGBT people. Cue lots of straight slash writers flailing all over the place.

I'm pretty sure the webcomic Wicked Alchemy has ripped off my favorite tabletop RPG, In Nomine.
The problem is that IN uses some pretty general biblical stuff-- you see "elohim" a lot in biblical literature, and the same with Seraphim and Cherubim.
But it feels like there's enough tip-off for me to get my hackles up. There are seven types each of angels and demons, and the types are all pretty near the name of the type in In Nomine, and they all have similar powers. Also, the musical references: "resonate", "Angelic Choirs", "Demonic Bands" are pretty IN-specific.
Compare the IN MUSH's description of the Choirs with the Wicked Alchemy version of the same.
(Hell, I'd like to point out that I found these when someone posted this meme-- and I originally mistook it for an IN-based meme.)
I found one mention of the game at the top of the Celestials page, pretty hidden (it's not at the top of the Histories & Stories page, where everything is linked, not at the top of the Angelic or Demonic pages, and it's certainly NOT on the credit page.) So, there's credit given, just not where anyone's likely to find it. I didn't even see it there until ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) cpip pointed it out.
cpip thinks I should check with archangelbeth about the most appropriate person at Steve Jackson Games to direct this to. What do the rest of you think?

Sheer and utter FAIL, Harry Potter fandom.
What bothers me even more is that a number of people apparently didn't know the term "miscegenation" and thus the ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) daily_deviant mods could define the term in a stupid and really fucking offensive way, and otherwise well-meaning people ended up thinking that was the actual meaning and that it was OKAY.
FAIL. Epic fucking fail, people.
You even got me distracted enough that I didn't post the book quotes I had all ready and everything!
... Strangely, I pulled a book titled The Interracial Dating Guide For Black Women Who Want to Date White Men off a book cart today. The author uses the pseudonym "Adam White" (COUGH). Maybe I'll do some quotes from it tomorrow, instead of the book I was planning-- that is, if I don't want to burn the book/author. |

Racewank always makes me want to write a tl;dr post about my fandom habits and kinks, and analyze them in light of current gender norms and racial prejudices.
And then I try to work it all out and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Because, yes, I am well aware that I do, on occasion, fetishize Black and Asian men. I have a kink for androgyny. Tattoos and piercings turn me on. I like fantisizing about what, in most literature, would be termed "Other."
After all, I'm a short, well-educated, middle-class Caucasian girl.
And then I start trying to fit in my religion, and something in the back of my brain points out that to some people being Jewish means I'm not White. Granted, I can pass, but my Whiteness is certainly questionable by some lights.
I mean, Jews have areally weird history when it comes to dealing with ethnic minorities-- nannies, for instance, are common, and what with the whole civil rights movement, and the huge fights over whether jews are White or not... There's the whole "epidemic" of Jewish women adopting Chinese babies that's been going on for a few years now. And this is a total tangent, but it gets wrapped up in my race issues.
And I want to focus on simple appreciation, because why is it inappropriate for me to appreciate a certain cant to features, or a certain body type, or skin tone? Is the fact that I think the facial features of a certain set of Asian men attractive any more or less appropriate than someone who likes, say, redheads?
Not to mention the subset to my Black guy thing: which is that I find the stereotypical thug unappealing,and the black men that I like are the ones who look and act intelligent-- is this simply filed under my appreciation for intelligence along with my pretty? Or can it be read as a back-handed complimentwhere the rest of my subconcious has issues with the "dangerous, unintelligent animal" stereotype of a Black guy?
Am I allowed to say that there are certain black men whose abs I find quite lickable? And there are some nice Asian men that I wouldn't mind touching in naughty places?
... ... And that there's a certain chubby white chick that really should be in my bed right now because she's hotter than all the Black guys in the world?
Fuck this shit. I don't need to analyze my kinks because they ARE my kinks. If it's racist to like what I like, that's not going to stop me from being attracted to it-- all it does is make me feel guilty for fantasies (well, the white girl one isn't a fantasy, but she's not in my bed right now, and should be.) So, here. Have visual aids. Go ahead. Tell me it's wrong.

So back in January, l_the_fangirl was squeeing over some geek online dating service-- Geek 2 Geek. So I signed up, tossed up a profile, skimmed the listings and promptly forgot about it.
So, here I am, 8 months later and in the space of three days, I get two messages from two different guys. Well, technically one message and one "wink", which means that the guy's interested in me. One's in Ontario, CA and the other's in Vancouver, Canada, respectively...
Okay, WTH?

| Harry Potter and the Fandom's Endless Wank |

I was reading the MsScribe Story and the Cassandra Claire (or is that Clare now?) Plagiarism Saga over at Bad Penny on Journalfen.
It got me thinking-- I used to like the Draco Trilogy. I remember sophomore year of college putting quotes from it (as well as from other things) up on the board outside my dorm room door. Rereading it now it's full of plotholes and her prose sucks, but I used to like it. I feel like it should be shameful to say. I was on the Cassie_and_Rhysenn e-list. I used to be a fangirl-- a mild one, who didn't pay much attention to fandom (and was quickly fading out) but a fangirl nonetheless.
Someone on Bad Penny commented that the way wars were waged in fandom back then make the shipping wars of today "look like Visigoths and Vandals squabbling over the ruins of Rome". And I think they're right. Thinking back on it there is absolutely no way for me to describe to someone just coming into fandom how BIG Cassie was. It would be like trying to describe the magnitude of the Empire State Building to someone who's only ever seen thatched huts.
Boy, am I glad I pulled out of fandom about that time... |

You know how Nextwave totally isn't canon, right? Because if it was in continuity, the world was blow up.
Right. So, I was reading Black Panther 18: "The Wedding of the Century" (Civil War Cease-Fire).
Luke Cage wants Photon (that is, Monica Rambeau) to move to Wakanda with him and Jessica. This is okay. It makes me amused that Photon is actually mentioned in a continuity book.
But is that all? NO! Of COURSE NOT. Do you know what I see two pages later? Probably not, because most of you didn't bother to buy the book. Jerks.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT I SEE? I see a card! With a BOW! Lying on Ororo's bed! Do you know what that card says? Do you? Do you? NO, YOU DON'T.

Because my characters are only peripherally involved, and hell if I wanna deal with the wank this would cause.
You're a nice chick, if a little weird sometimes. And I get identifying with your character, I've done pretty badly in this game a few times. But identifying so badly that you have to guilt trip the player of a character who pissed your character off IC to get the revenge you want? Totally not with the cool.
From what *I* heard, the things you wanted were:
1. Kill the character
2. Kick the character out of the game (by freaking him out enough that he'd run away from the castle)
3. Take away his powers for an indefinate period of time
So, I can understand being annoyed with the character (and maybe the mun a bit too). There were issues with the character's omniscience, and the fact that he was talking about relationship troubles on the school radio. Fine, whatever. but you know what? he was talking shit about everybody. He talked shit about at least one of my characters (in a really vitriolic way, too), and honestly? My character was touchy about it, but I? I don't give a crap. This character is well known for fucking with people. This is NOT news.
Also, yes, the character is powerful-- he's a god and you're playing a mortal. Don't like it? Pick up a god character. I think you still have a char slot open. That's what I did. I could slap down this character, because I'm playing someone specifically with those sorts of connections and that kind of power. Them's the lumps of playing in a game with such a disparate power scale.
I can't help but feel you took liberties in guilt tripping the mun (who eventually ended up agreeing to let you remove the character's powers for an indefinate period of time) because she's a mod. So you could say to her that you're feeling "marginalized". Well, it looked to me like you felt "marginalized" because the mun felt that the character's ongoing plot with his IC wife was more important that your character's revenge. I doubt you would have acted this way towards one of the other players.
Honestly, the mun was willing to let you torture her character-- and seeing your torture threads, I can honestly say she's a braver person than I. I, in fact, threatened to shelve one of my characters if you tried to drag him into one of those threads. I'd shelve ANY of my characters, even the immortal one if you tried to pull this crap on me. You accused her of letting you "beat on a doll", I believe. Well, you know what? That's all that's happening in any of those torture threads, because these characters aren't REAL. It was a good compromise, because your character knows that no one can die on-campus.
When that was pointed out you tried to find an OOC punishment-- trying to force the character out of the game by making his wife fall in love with someone else? Not only is that probably not IC for your homicidal character, but that's fucked up OOC right there. And when the mod shot THAT down you wanted to take the character's powers away, and complained when she asked how long.
If you had done that to me, I would have slapped you down and gone straight to a mod (which, in fact, I believe I've done once before). Lucky for you, the player in question IS a mod, and you wore her down.

I'm feeling a little grumpy, even though I only applied because JJ asked me to.
The Charles Xavier Institute
My application, which is, granted, a little short, but not much more so than my normal applications.
( Their rejection. Which wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't know that they had my AIM SN. )
( My response. A little snippy, because it's late, and the mod signed off immediately after sending me the rejection, so I couldn't discuss it with her directly. )
According to JJ, the mods are usually pretty good about IMing people, so either they really didn't like me or they were lying down on the job.
And then I remember. They let OCs into the game (in an X-Men game, if the power isn't SO over the top it's ridiculous, you can probably find a canon character who has it. OCs are completely unnecessary.) Also, there are, like, SIX non-white or non-human-looking characters in a game that looks like it has at least thirty characters, and probably more (and I'd be playing the whitiest white bread boy you ever did see.)
And I am in touchedthesky, which is populated by a number of players who write better than I ever think I could, who not only don't mind, but actively asked me to submit an application.

I'm also in hogwarts_hocus, where I'm actively playing five characters and quite enjoying myself. No one's complained about my RPing there yet. (Although I wouldn't know about it if they were. Those H_H players are sneaky ones, you know.)

You don't want Josh to curse out Kevin and your powerful OCs, that's fine. I was looking forward to having a forum where I could actually play a nice-guy character who has fucked-up knee-jerk reactions about other nice people. I don't get to pretend to be a bigot very often. But that's okay. I'll file him back in the closet and go back to my other games. Which are filled with the precious crack that gives me life.

::snickers:: I find the list of characters that you and your girlfriend (who also quit, about ten minutes before you, for the same exact "reasons") held deeply deeply amusing.
I may try and pick up Lucius, because it's BS that he'd have nothing to do without Narcissa or Voldemort. (Time to mock the mudbloods ahoy! And if someone doesn't hex me, I will be sorely vexed.) |

In other news... new character in Young Avengers, Ares is kinda neat, and Fables is starting a WEIRD story arc. Also the writers for Ulti!X-Men better NOT screw with Rogue's powers. The swap thing is COOL. |
