| YuleBets Reminder |
[Dec. 23rd, 2009|11:07 pm] |
This is just a reminder for everyone who participated in the Yuletide betting pool.
The winner will be announced after the archive goes live. The guess that is closest, without going over, to the number of fics then will win the awesome art. Everyone else will have the year to write a fic for every bet.
The names of participants that I have are behind the cut. If you don't remember your bet, email me at tisforlily at gmail and I'll tell you the number I've got listed for you. If you think you made a bet, but don't see it listed below, email me asap and I'll get it fixed.
Good luck, everyone!

| swear my time's never cheap |
[Dec. 23rd, 2009|11:40 pm] |
A Festivus for the rest of us!
I will skip the traditional airing of grievances, because the feats of strength portion of this post is going to be very long and also I don't think I can stay awake long enough to do both. And anyway, this is me. When have I ever needed a special day to air my grievances?
Onward!
the feats of strength
Today was busy! And productive!
I wrote two yuletide treats for people who at the time did not have stories uploaded for them (according to the information I had at the time, anyway). I have at least one more in the hopper, too, I think. If I can stay awake. Anyway.
Today was the baking of many cakes day.
Let me say upfront that while I am a good baker, I am a lousy photographer, so while I did include pictures here because I wanted to feel like a real food blogger, the pictures are not exactly quality, and that is all on me.
( long post is long. and full of pictures. )
So there you have it, in words and pictures.
Maybe tomorrow I will make the buttermilk cake again, with cranberries this time. I also still need to wrap the kids' gifts, and see if I can't write some yuletide treats. ANd possibly get some sleep. *g*
Hope all y'all had a good day too.

| "I'm about to go on a murdering spree." "Me too." |
[Dec. 23rd, 2009|10:48 pm] |
I have been so busy at the goddamn mall that I want to punch something in the face. I hate hate hate HATE the mall at Christmastime; all of the stupid people come out of their houses at the same time and drive me baaatshhiitttt. I would say, "Well, at least it'll be over after tomorrow", but it won't, because I am also working the day after Christmas, and I am still haunted from memories of that one time I went to the mall the day after Christmas. I would rather not talk about it, for I am still traumatized.
BUT ANYWAY! Happy things. I slept over at Sophie's on Monday and exchanged presents with her and Bonner. Sophie is the GREATEST EVER and got me that Stanley Kubrick book I've been wanting since forever YAAAAAAAYYY. \o/ And Bonner got me a funny mug and a crazy rainbow t-shirt. I got Sophie the Arkham Asylum game and I got Bonner some shoes and a The Adventures of Pete & Pete dvd. Good times.
Going to Pennsylvania after work tomorrow. I had to switch shifts with someone so I could go. I'll be going to into work at 8:30 after leaving tonight at 10... gah. |

| Christmas! |
[Dec. 23rd, 2009|07:41 pm] |
I love Christmas so much! My sister went on a mad decorating spree a few days ago, and besparkled the whole house. It turns out the stuff does not come out in the shower. I ended up going to a job interview all a-glitter.
Just sent out my New Years cards (because let's face it, if they go out after the mail has been picked up on the 23rd? No longer Christmas cards). I just realized after all the envelopes were sealed that I addressed them to either a person's lj name OR their real name, completely at random, and I signed either my real name OR my lj name, also completely at random. Yaay fungible identities in the modern world. Nobody laugh at me too hard.
Have been hanging out in #yuletide and betaing like a mad thing. You guys, the Yuletide mods are the hardest working bunch of awesome people in all fandom, I swear. This is the highlight of my year, and watching them deal with two server slowdowns and the Great Pinch Hit Kerfuffle of 09... it's inspiring, is what it is. |

| Did some dragon-swapping, yay! |
[Dec. 23rd, 2009|09:15 pm] |
There was stress with a homework folder not being put back in backpack, and the main phone line not working (it's working now) so the kid's message to me got read about 3 hours later 'cause I was asleep when the voicemail came in... But overall, things worked out.
And I got a holly egg! Yay! I had to swap out one of my hatchlings to get it, that I've promised to someone else entirely, so there will need to be double-swapping going on.
Lightning+Lightning=rejection, apparently.

| SITE ISSUES |
[Dec. 24th, 2009|01:14 am] |
Hi guys,
I am not a mod OR an AO3 person, but I happened to have one in my googlechat when the site went slow, which was handy.
I've been asked to pass on that they know the site is having issues suddenly. They think it might be The Big Pinch-hit Upload killing it, and they're on it. You don't need to log a support request, and if everyone could refrain from refreshing while they sort it out that would be awesome of you.
Again, not an official bod, just message-passing ;-)
ETA: New message! It's back up, but if people can just use it to upload rather than checking counts and fandom for now, this would be awesome. And if those people posting non-urgent stuff, like treats, can hold until after the pinch-hit deadline, the site will love you for it. |

[Dec. 23rd, 2009|07:01 pm] |
| [ | If I wasn't apathetic, I'd be |
| | sleepy | ] | I re-read the bits from Guy Gardner: Warrior where Guy and Fire hook up, and you guys, I need Fire/Ice/Guy, like, in my soul. Somebody's written that, right? Right? (And maybe I should re-read I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League except I know that it will MAKE ME CRY because that is the sort of mood I've been in lately.)
My sleep schedule has been so fucked up this past week or so. :( I'm either not sleeping or sleeping until like 4-6pm. It's really terrible. Maybe when I'm back on a regular work schedule instead of getting moved back and forth from opening to closing all the freaking time. Urgh.
But I did write a Yuletide Madness story last night! I am so proud of myself! I did things! I might write another ficlet tonight, since there are two more prompts I'm fond of there. I'll have to think about it.
I have this giant list of stuff to write. I should get on that. |

| waving to everyone |
[Dec. 23rd, 2009|11:58 pm] |
Another busy day. I think my body is starting to add up the total and present me with bills: I'm feeling rather tired. Oh well, I can rest on the train tomorrow and when I get home to family.
Work went well. My coworkers liked the earrings I'd made for them, which was very gratifying. Got to the maternity hospital after work and handed over the premature baby jacket and hat I'd made, which is another thing I'd wanted to get done before Christmas. Managed to get to the local gaming shop afterwards to pick up a book I wanted, then to M&S to get some mince pies to bring in to work tomorrow. (Stopped by Pret a Manger to grab a sandwich for tomorrow. Got called "sir" by the man serving me. More than once. I didn't think my winter coat was that concealing.)
Got home. Washed hair. Wrapped Christmas presents. Did majority of packing. Had supper.
Currently waiting for laundry to finish before putting it to dry and then hitting my bed very hard indeed.
Off home tomorrow after the morning's work, which means five hours on the train, which means that I'm currently crossing my fingers very hard indeed that the trains will be running on schedule. The fact that it is snowing outside, and that the snow appears to be lying, is not helping my confidence. Oh well. I can but wrap up warm, put some knitting/books/DS in my bag, hang onto my luggage, and hope.
A very merry Christmas to you all. Take care, enjoy yourselves, and be happy.

THE CURE FOR EXHAUSTION
Sometimes, exhausted with toil and endeavour, I wish I could sleep for ever and ever; but then this reflection my longing allays: I shall be doing it one of these days.

You've got 6 hours 'til deadline, unless I've given you an extension.
This post is your last chance to ask for a last minute beta or an extension. If you haven't been granted an extension and I don't hear from you soon, I assume that your story will be in by midnight EST (or around then, anyway; if it shows up at 1:30 or 2 am, you're still good).
Story submission guidelines can be found here.
If you have any questions or concerns NOW IS THE TIME to comment!
Stories will be up at (or around) midnight EST on the 25th (so, right when Christmas starts). A post will be made with the story titles in the comments so that people can give feedback and thank their author. Authors will be revealed in early 2010.
Soon you will be able to breathe easy and wait in anticipation for your story to appear :) |
