Carrying Transmet with me started three completely random conversations on the bus
Today was an awesome, awesome day.

Slept late. Mmm, nice. And then I headed to the Alternative Press Expo, which is Comic-con's indie con. It was smaller than Wondercon (no surprise), and was more like a giant Artist's Alley than anything else. I met up with Gary, from the comic shop (Comic Outpost, in case you were wondering), and then went wandering. I pestered David Wong, who is a lazy bastard with his commissions unless you pester him to hell and back, so Gary's gonna pick up the commission David promised me at the 2005 JTAF. And I spent a while just hanging out with him.

The CW Bay Area was filming intros and outros for their shows by handing random people microphones and telling them to introduce a show. They wouldn't let me do Supernatural because too many people had asked, and I forgot to ask about Smallville or ANTM until it was too late, so I introed Malcom in the Middle. According to the military industrial complex drone girl CW release form chick, she's had a number of people tell her what I said, which was that Supernatural is about the only show I watch on a regular basis. (Might be something to think about when it comes time for renewal, huh?)

I bought more stuff than I should have, including, but not limited to, two small press books, a couple of Chick tracts (including "Dark Dungeons"), the first two Transmet trades (this is important later), a calender from Iris, and a VIKING BUNNY.

While looking for a chair with which to lounge about at David's booth, I ran into [info]sleepfighter, [info]essandem, and some chick whose name I didn't quite catch. it took me a while to realize that [info]essandem was Stephan, a young man with whom I had drama quite a few years ago. He seems to have cleaned up nicely, and he tells me that the stalking tendencies are well in hand, which is nice to hear. We had nice conversation about which comics we've been reading and such.

After APE, I went to Espresso Roma to meet with [info]hannahrorlove-- who I ended up meeting with on the bus there instead. Her cousin was having a small closing party to celebrate the end of her art's exhibit at the cafe. Everyone was nice and polite, but here's where the night got a bit surreal:
Hannah and I are discussing leaving and all of a sudden Hannah goes "is that Robin Williams?" Turns out he's a friend of her cousin, dropping by the party to say hello. She introduced him around, and Hannah nudged me into showing him my VIKING BUNNY. He adored it. He also told Hannah that all she needs as an English major is a good editor, and that I should "save the books!" when I told him I was a library student.

... Also, he's a comics nerd. Hannah suggested I get him to sign my Transmet trades, and he saw them and promptly grinned and told me he had all of them. And started extolling the virtues of different comic shops in SF. He's a fan of Isotope-- I think he was planning to go to their APE afterparty. The conversation bounced a lot-- from hentai figurines (he's seen Takashi Murakami's work, and knew the guy's name!), to Stephen Hawking's affair, to possible casting decisions for a Transmet movie (Patrick Stewart). It was lovely, geeky conversation. It was kind of hard to shut down the "OMG, Robin William!" part of my brain, but I sort of managed it, at least until Hannah and I got out of the cafe. At which point we started bouncing at each other and singing "Singin' in the Rain".

So today was a pretty awesome day.

XD When Izzy and I were out of earshot of you, I told her I didn't think you recognized me at first. There are a zillion comics I feel like I need to loan you... You probably have a zillion I'd love as well.

It wasn't until you made the "I haven't seen you in four years" comment that your identity clicked. It was a "wait, four years? Who haven't a spoken to-- oh. OH. Right."

I have a bunch of trades and even more comics. And books. Lots of books!
