Fiction
Back at last year's BASCon, during the race and fandom panel,
coniraya asked why people write about Norse and Greek gods, but not Vodun lwa or African gods.
Apropos of nothing, it's probably because I have more fictional source material to draw on for the Norse gods (SGVY, Brathalla, Diane Wynne Jones' "Eight Days of Luke"). They're more archetypical than fleshed out people. They have a specific place in a myth cycle that's set and informs a certain one-dimensionality.
It also probably has something to do with the fact that Baron Samedi is one of
onyxdubh's patrons. I'm afraid he'd smack me if I tried to write anything-- hell, I'm afraid Baron Samedi would smack me. Baron Samedi's always seemed more like a person than Loki or any of the other Norse gods.
Although, I will admit to a half-fleshed out plot seed for IN involving a couple of lwa. IN works better with vibrant pantheons (unlike the Norse who are old and weak and make good prey for Ethereal predators, and anyway don't have anything like the tolerance of Heaven that the lwa and Hindi pantheon get.)
Also: Dear patrons, if you want to put money into the books you're returning, I don't mind at ALL. But you could at least put a dollar bill in there. I mean, QUARTERS? Were you using them as bookmarks?
